Dräger Bridge

For a safe coexistence

Due to the steady growth of urban agglomerations, residential areas and industrial sites must learn to coexist in a more confined space. Potential industrial emissions worry residents. Thus, they and industry become adversaries.

The digital platform Dräger Bridge enables clarification through a transparent exchange of information between both parties. The specific air quality data of a dense sensor network provide a sound basis for discussion.

The sensors are clearly visible in the cityscape and reflect the daily measured values through color-coded light feedback. Passers-by have the possibility to interactively change the light feedback by navigating within the measured measurements.

Depending on the interest, the web-based platform can be used informatively, participatively or dialogically. Dräger Bridge thus enables residents and industrial sites to resolve differences and jointly increase the quality of the shared living space.

The network

The participation functions of the Dräger Bridge are supported by a dense air monitoring network.

The general air quality and industry-specific pollutants are measured within a radius of at least one kilometer around the industrial site. This data is transmitted to the platform via LoRaWAN and processed there for plant operators and residents.

The platform

The interface design of Dräger Bridge is designed for user-friendliness and increased accessibility. The platform for residents can be accessed via a browser and does not require an app.

In addition, plant operators have the option to personalize the interface to show a clear affiliation with the company.

The interactive map ‘Take a look’ shows plant information and current sensor readings. In the ‘Join in’ format, residents can participate in current surveys and votes on neighborhood-relevant topics. The chatbot Orbit answers acute questions, responds to concerns, and and takes suggestions.

Chatbot Orbit

Chatbot Orbit recognizes the browser language of the users and addresses them in a friendly but serious manner in their preferred language.

Orbit answers acute questions, responds to concerns and takes suggestions.

The sensor

The sensor unit can be equipped with up to eight sensors via Plug`n`Play. Each sensor measures a facility-specific substance. This means that the measurements can also be adjusted spontaneously.

The substances are each coded with their own colors. This modular system offers easy maintenance and servicing.

The interaction

With an NFC tag on the lanterns, passers-by can access the Dräger Bridge platform directly while noticing the installations.

There, they can view the specific readings of the sensor rings, learn about their meaning and change the light feedback of the sensor in real time by interacting with the data.
